Tackling religious and ethnic discrimination through European Convention mechanisms
Project duration: May 2007 – May 2008
The aim of this project was to address the issues of religious and ethnic discrimination in Russia through the use of European Convention mechanisms. This included litigation activities, training for practising lawyers, law students and human rights NGOs.

Prevention of Interethnic Conflict in Russia
Project duration: February 2007 – January 2009
This project contributed to creation of an effective active system for the prevention of interethnic conflicts. It trained leaders of ethnic communities, representatives of regional authorities and police how to successfully co-operate and exchange experience in order to prevent ethnic conflict.

Strengthening of Civil Society in the Regions of Russian Federation
Project duration: July 2007 – June 2008
This project helped to form a more open and democratic political system in Russia and in particular to develop grass-roots initiatives to increase public participation. It expanded the School’s first Phase of regional round-table, targeting emerging young representatives of government, elected officials, civic leaders, NGO representatives, business and mass media from within each of the targeted regions.

Legal Protection of a Person against Discrimination
Project duration: September 2007 – February 2007
The project aimed at building the legal and operational capacity of the Russian state to combat discrimination. It introduced best practices from foreign jurisdictions to future lawyers, staff attorneys of state bodies and deputies. This helped to raise awareness of Russian lawyers on international and domestic remedies for victims of discrimination and successful litigation strategies in discrimination cases/

European School of Human Rights in Russia
Project duration: October 2007 – September 2008
The project provided regional civil activists, NGOs representatives, and journalists with authentic and positive information on the European Court of Human Rights activity and real practical instruments to ensure success of its mission and proper public attitude.

Freedom of speech and the right to information: raising awareness on human rights among journalists and personnel of restricted public access institutions

The strategic purpose of the project was to raise awareness of human rights in restricted public access institutions.

Legal schools for state officials, law enforcement officers, NGOs, ethnic communities and mass media with the purpose of overcoming xenophobia and extremism.

This project strengthened capacities of state officials, law enforcement officers, human rights NGOs, ethnic communities, and mass media in combating xenophobia, extremism and ethnic conflicts in the Russian Federation.

Organisation of the public campaign on migration related issues in the post-conflict localities of the Northern Caucuses
Project duration: January 2007 – January 2008
This project created conditions for mitigating social tensions in the Northern Caucasus by increasing awareness of local citizens, government officials, business, and mass media of migration related issues.

GCAP Russia – Building a Rights Based Approach to Poverty
Project duration: March 2007 – March 2008
The project aimed to create a core group of social sector NGOs capable of using a rights based approach to influence local and national authorities on behalf of their client groups.

“Open Dialog” - training programme for lawyers of Kaliningrad region of Russia in European standards of human rights
Project duration: February 2007 – November 2007
The project trained lawyers of the Kaliningrad region in European standards of human rights to develop gradual inculcation into the practical activity of courts and local authorities.

Regional Russian NGOs, Russian ombudsmen and the European Court of Human Rights: Capacity building for Russian regional human rights groups providing legal assistance to conscripts, conscientious objectors and draftees in the military
Project duration: October 2006 – March 2007
The project assisted in preparing legal cases and creating judicial precedents in relation to the human rights protection of conscripts, conscientious objectors and draftees in the military using Russian domestic and international - European - legal remedies.

Transparency and disclosure of the Russian and Ukrainian banks and corporations
Project duration: October 2007
The study provided a benchmark for transparency and disclosure practices of Russian banks - comparing their performance year on year, and with best international practice, in order to spur improvements in transparency. The average Russian banking transparency score has improved from 36% in 2005 to 52% in 2007.

Project duration: July-December 2008
The project raised awareness of disability issues in Moscow and neighbourhood communities, and helped to promote a positive image of disabled people through film.

Promoting access to credit for small and medium enterprises (SME)
Project duration: February-March 2008
Support for SMEs is one of major priorities of the Russian government. The project aimed to introduce the SMEs credit brokers certification system in the North-West of Russia. Financial intermediaries who have taken part in the programme now have a better understanding of the needs of SMEs, while through the certification system, SMEs can now identify those credit brokers who understand their needs.

Overcoming of gender discrimination as the way of ensuring of gender equality

Project was seeking creating and implementing methods and mechanisms of anti discriminatory actions, using the legislative and administrative resources for protection of the people who were discriminated by gender principle.

Protection of freedom of religion through European Convention mechanisms

The purpose of the project was to promote values and standards set out in article 9 of the European convention on human rights. Project activities included but were not limited to taking cases to the European court of Human rights and monitoring of enforcement and implementation of the ECHR decisions on article 9 of the Convention.
