Confronting Impunity in Chechnya: Advanced Litigation before the European Court of Human Rights
Project duration: August 2004- December 2007
The project confronted the serious problem of impunity in Chechnya by expanding litigation activities and overseeing the advanced stages of domestic and European Court of Human Rights litigation for the majority of cases from Chechnya presented to the ECHR. Accountability for serious human rights abuses serves to build peace by decreasing tensions and providing a model for resolving disputes through legal means rather than through violent conflict.

Dialogue for Partnership in the North Caucasus
Project duration: 1 October 2006- 31 March 2008
The goal of the project was to promote cooperation through dialogue between different sectors of society, including state and non-state actors, in order to reduce tensions in the North Caucasus.
Implementing partner: International Alert.

Enhancing media professionalism and protection in the North Caucasus
Project duration: December 2006- November 2008
The project aimed to build capacity for conflict resolution in the North Caucasus through enhanced legal safety of journalists, thereby strengthening media's ability to satisfy the public's right to quality information and debate on matters of public importance.
Implementing partner: Article 19.

Analytic-information centre in North Caucasus
Project duration: November 2006- October 2008
This project was designed to continue monitoring human rights violations in the North Caucasus through supporting a network of 13 monitoring centres and legal consultation offices and to assist victims of human rights violations in preparation applications to the European Court of Human Rights and monitoring their decisions' implementation.

North Caucasus Media & Civil Society conflict prevention and confidence building programme
Project duration: October 2006- March 2008
This aim of this project was to enhance effective and accountable governance, public participation in the political process, cross-border and cross-community dialogue. To improve democratic discourse, responsible information and public debate through strengthened professional media and civil society linkages.
Implementing partner: Institute for War & Peace Reporting.

Young Disabled People in the North Caucasus Promote Dialogue and Community Networks
Project duration: October 2006- March 2008
The project focused on building cross border relationships and trust between young disabled activists/ leaders in the region and empowered them to challenge discrimination in society and advocate for the elimination of social and physical infrastructure barriers.
Implementing partner: Regional Society of disabled people “Perspektiva”.

Achieving stability and civic consent in the NC
Project duration: October 2006- March 2008
The project built capacity and conflict awareness as well as to promoted high professional standards among local officials, police and other law enforcement bodies, NGOs/ CSOs and media outlets.
Implementing partner: North Caucasus Civil Service Academy in Stavropol.


Serving Diverse Communities: Developing Media Capacity in the North Caucasus
Project duration: April 2007 – May 2008
The project aim was to improve the capacity of civil society to contribute collectively to conflict prevention initiatives at the local, regional and national level and supports efforts to raise standards in regional media, where this is relevant to conflict prevention. To reduce political, social, ethnic and religious tension across conflict dividers and promote people-to-people contacts and broader confidence building measures in the above areas.
Implementing partner: BBC World Trust.

Human rights training for members of penitentiary service in regions close to hot spots in South of Russia
Project duration: June 2007 – December 2007
This project strengthened human rights principles and human treatment of prison in penitentiary institutions in conflict regions and in neighbouring areas, training them in European standards and practices of treatment of prisoners, increasing legal culture of prison system, making human rights a priority in its work.
Implementing partner: Social Partnership Foundation.

Co-operation for Prevention of Interethnic Conflicts in the North Caucasus
Project duration: November 07 – October 08
The purpose of the project was to create mechanisms of co-operation between the authorities, specialists, scholars and civil society institutions to prevent new interethnic conflicts, or the escalation of existing conflicts, via discussion and stakeholders' participation
Implementing partner: Centre for interethnic co-operation.
