Riitta Ikonen http://www.riittaikonen.com

Winzavod Moscow Contemporary Art Center, Wander Hall
12 March – 2 April 2009.  Free entry

Global climate change is more and more acutely felt throughout the world. Acknowledging and addressing this problem is becoming a key issue in international dialogue at all levels. This exhibition is meant to showcase this stark reality through photography.
The exhibition features professional photographs as well as winners of the January 2009 amateur photo competition organised by the British Embassy in Moscow and National Geographic Russia.

From 12 March to 2 April, there will be a line-up of special events to complement the photography exhibition at Winzavod, including workshops by three leading contemporary photographers, an appearance by an Arctic explorer, and a film screening.

Special Event Programme:

• 12 March, 18.00 – 22.00: Grand opening. Free entry.
• 14 March, 13.00 – 15.00: “Photo Project, from Idea to Mastery” Workshop by Andrey Rogozin, professional photographer and instructor at the School of Contemporary Photography. History of the photo project as a genre, classical works and the contemporary scene. Will cover overall methodology and logic behind project creation, drafting of accompanying texts, and presentation of finished work. Registration necessary.
• 14 March, 16.00 – 18.00: “Photo Project, Personal Experience” Workshop by Riitta Ikonen, Finnish photography artist. Riitta will create a photo project just for this workshop. Registration necessary.
• 21 March, 16.00 – 18.00: “The Drifting Arctic Ice Sheets” Presentation by Arctic explorer and oceanologist Sergei Pisarev. Since 1982, Sergei has gone on over 30 expeditions into the Arctic, studying one of the most telling indicators of the Earth’s changing climate, the polar ice sheets. Sergei will share experiences and photographs of his fascinating travel experiences and research. Registration necessary.
• 27 March, 19.00 – 21.00: Workshop by James Hill, famous British photographer and photojournalist for New York Times. Having spent the last 15 years in Russia, James will discuss how to capture photographs for the headlines. How to develop your own style, making it compatible with the style of the publication, how to find a unique perspective in mundane environments, and how to make your statement through photographs – all of these topics and more will be covered in this not-to-be-missed workshop. Registration necessary.
• 28 March, 19.30 – 22.00: Earth Hour. Entry is by invitation only.
• 2 April, 19.00 – 21.00: Exhibition closing. Film screening: “Climate Change Theatre”. Registration necessary.
